Rare 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS LS6 Convertible From Premier Auction Group

A meticulously restored 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS LS6 convertible highlights the peak era of American muscle cars, combining high-performance engineering with classic styling that defined the early 1970s.

Powered by Chevrolet’s formidable LS6 454 cubic-inch V-8 engine rated at 450 horsepower, the Chevelle SS LS6 represented one of the most powerful factory muscle cars of its time. The engine is paired with a heavy-duty M22 “Rock Crusher” four-speed manual transmission, a setup widely known among enthusiasts for its durability and distinctive gear sound.

This example features an Astro Blue exterior, a bold factory color that complements the car’s Parchment White vinyl interior. The color combination continues with a white convertible soft top and matching Parchment White top boot, creating a striking contrast that emphasizes the Chevelle’s muscular lines while maintaining a clean, classic appearance.

The car underwent a comprehensive nut-and-bolt frame-off rotisserie restoration, a process that involves completely disassembling the vehicle and restoring each component before reassembly. Such restorations are known for returning vehicles to near showroom condition while preserving their original design and specifications.

Inside the cabin, the Chevelle features bucket seats and a center console, giving the interior a sporty feel that was characteristic of Chevrolet’s Super Sport models. A tilt steering wheel allows for adjustable driving comfort, while an AM/FM radio provides period-correct audio equipment. The gauge package adds to the driver-focused layout, offering additional performance monitoring typical of high-performance muscle cars.

Performance components extend beyond the engine and transmission. The car is equipped with a 3.31 Positraction 12-bolt rear end, designed to improve traction and power delivery to the rear wheels. The iconic Cowl Induction hood with hood pins enhances both appearance and airflow, another hallmark of Chevrolet’s high-performance models from the era.

The Chevelle rides on SS wheels fitted with Firestone raised white-letter radial Wide Oval tires, completing the car’s authentic muscle car stance. With its powerful LS6 engine, manual transmission, and carefully restored condition, this convertible represents a standout example of Chevrolet’s legendary Super Sport lineup from 1970.
