Rare Packards Set to Turn Heads at Lucky Collector Auction’s Spring Classic

A trio of vintage Packards—each with its own claim to automotive history—will headline the Lucky Collector Car Auction’s Spring Classic this year. From an ultra-rare 1929 Custom Eight to a pair of beautifully restored 1948 models, these vehicles highlight the enduring legacy of one of America’s most revered luxury marques.

1929 Packard 640 Custom Eight Phaeton

Arguably the rarest car at the event, this 1929 Packard 640 Custom Eight Phaeton is the only known surviving example in its five-passenger configuration. Restored to concours-level standards in 2017 by Packard expert Gene O’Hara, the car features a 384 cubic-inch inline-eight engine producing 105 horsepower—an engineering marvel in its day. Its deep red body with black fenders is complemented by black leather upholstery trimmed with red piping, perfectly echoing the car’s refined styling. Notable features include dual side-mounted spares, wind wings, artillery wheels, and Packard’s famed “Goddess of Speed” hood ornament. Previously owned by Clive and Janet Cussler, the vehicle was a showpiece at the 2018 Concours d’Elegance of Texas and is recognized as a Full Classic® by the Classic Car Club of America.

1948 Packard Super Eight Victoria Convertible

One of just 4,750 Victoria Convertibles produced in 1948, this French Blue Packard Super Eight is both stylish and road-ready. Under the hood is a 327-cubic-inch straight-eight engine paired with a three-speed manual transmission and overdrive, offering smooth cruising and vintage flair. Acquired by the Automobile Driving Museum in 2011, the car features classic wide whitewall tires, a driver’s side spotlight, and has been carefully maintained to preserve its postwar elegance. The rare paint color—exclusive to convertible models—adds further distinction.

1948 Packard Eight “Woodie” Wagon

This 1948 Packard “Woodie” Wagon captures the charm of mid-century American craftsmanship with its genuine wood paneling and period-correct finishes. Powered by a 288-cubic-inch inline-eight engine mated to a column-shifted three-speed manual transmission, it embodies the family wagon reimagined as a collector’s prize. With 97,910 miles on the odometer, the vehicle reflects careful stewardship and stands as a nostalgic tribute to the golden age of motoring.

The Spring Classic, held at the LeMay Family Collection at Marymount, will feature both in-person and online bidding. Preview days are available ahead of the sale, which is expected to attract enthusiasts and collectors from across the country.

For fans of Packard’s legacy, this auction presents a rare chance to acquire historically significant and museum-grade automobiles from one of America’s most storied luxury brands.

These great Packards and many other interesting collector cars are being sold at the Spring Classic 2025 Auto Auction taking place Saturday, May 31, and Sunday, Jun 1 at the LeMay Marymount Event Center.
