A supercar which truly needs no introduction, the Ferrari F40 is special even among the laudable Maranello stable. High-strung, cutting-edge for its time and made for performance above all, its desirability hasn’t waned one bit in over three decades.
See the Jaguar concept supercar someone made road legal.
With one crossing the block at Mecum Auctions’ Glendale event tomorrow, we’ll get yet another gauge at how hot the F40 remains. The auction house estimates the top bid will range from $2,900,000 and $3,100,000 which seems quite reasonable.
Consider that this was one of only 60 US spec Ferrari F40s made in 1992, with the global production run topping out at 213 units. An original, numbers-matching vehicle, the lot listing states the odometer reads a mere 9,448 miles. How anyone was able to keep usage of this ride so low for so long is a mystery.
Lightweight and simple in nature, the F40 contains a midship twin-turbo V8 with 471-horsepower on tap. Ther driver rows through the gears using a gated shifter, adding to the purity of the setup. Not only does the supercar handle sharply, its acceleration times are staggering at 3.9 seconds for 0-60 and 7.8 seconds for 0-100.
The seller is including the Ferrari Classiche Red book and Libretto Manutenzione (maintenance book) in the sale along with the original tool kit, owner’s manual in its leather pouch and a copy of the window sticker.
With Enzo Ferrari himself overseeing development of the F40, many consider this supercar to be the legend’s magnum opus, his final crowning achievement. Even with that bit of history stripped away, the Ferrari F40 is a truly impressive machine.
We expect this 1992 Ferrari F40 will perform wondrously on the auction block. See the lot listing for yourself here.
