Restomod 1957 Ford Thunderbird Blends Classic Elegance With Modern Muscle at Mecum

A thoroughly reimagined 1957 Ford Thunderbird Convertible is set to cross the auction block at Mecum’s Houston 2025 sale on Saturday, offering collectors a one-of-a-kind blend of classic style and contemporary performance.

Built to turn heads and dominate the road, the iconic Thunderbird has undergone a comprehensive, custom restoration and now packs a modern 302-cubic-inch V-8 engine delivering an estimated 400 horsepower. Backed by a Gearstar Level 2 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive, this convertible doesn’t just cruise—it roars.

With just 200 miles driven since the build’s completion, this T-Bird combines show car quality with road-ready reliability. The engine boasts premium components, including Air Flow Research aluminum heads, roller rockers, and a chromoly pushrod valvetrain. Electronic fuel injection ensures smooth operation, while a Traction-Lok rear axle with 3.70 gears helps deliver power to the pavement.

Underneath, a Scott’s Hotrods 4-link coilover suspension and Master Power Brakes with four-wheel discs modernize the ride and stopping capabilities, making this build as capable on the highway as it is in the spotlight.

The exterior dazzles in Titanium Silver paint with custom touches such as Kindig-It Design shaved door handles, frenched hood scoop, and subtly flared rear quarters. Inside, the car stuns with a red Italian leather interior, Classic Instruments gauges, and vintage-style A/C paired with a Pioneer touchscreen infotainment system offering Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, and a backup camera.

Rolling on Shelby-style aluminum wheels, this restomod is designed to be driven—and admired. Whether in a collection or cruising the coast, it represents the pinnacle of old-school cool fused with modern technology. See it here.
