British automaker Morgan unveiled its latest flagship sports car, the Supersport, introducing a modern interpretation of its iconic vintage styling paired with advanced technology.
Launched Tuesday, the Supersport is Morgan’s ambitious move to compete directly with popular performance vehicles like Porsche’s 911 Carrera, offering not only style but substantial power and practicality. The Supersport maintains Morgan’s recognizable retro aesthetic, showcased through traditional lines and classic detailing, yet incorporates cutting-edge innovations unseen in prior models.
A notable exterior update is the addition of a boot, a first for Morgan in more than a decade, providing greater daily usability. Customers also have the flexibility to alternate between an interchangeable carbon-fiber hard top and a retractable mohair soft top, transforming the vehicle into a convertible seamlessly.
Under its aluminum bodywork lies the powerful B58 TwinPower Turbo inline-six engine, supplied by BMW, Morgan’s longstanding collaborator. The engine produces 335 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque, enabling the Supersport to achieve 0-62 mph in just 3.9 seconds with a top speed reaching 166 mph. Coupled to this potent powerplant is a sophisticated ZP eight-speed automatic transmission.
The Supersport debuts Morgan’s new CXV aluminum platform, significantly enhancing structural rigidity compared to the previous CX Generation. According to Morgan, this new chassis offers a 10% improvement in torsional stiffness, with an additional 10% gain when the carbon-fiber hard top is attached.
Inside, the Supersport seamlessly merges vintage charm with modern amenities. An advanced Sennheiser audio system, digital driver display, and wireless charging pad complement traditional analog gauges. Interior customization includes 11 distinct wood finishes, ranging from modern marquetry to classic walnut.
Priced from $110,000, the Supersport exemplifies Morgan’s commitment to blending handcrafted tradition with modern luxury, marking a significant step forward in the marque’s storied history.
