Car thieves often target high-end, collectable rides for a few reasons. The most obvious is they can get plenty of money on the black market for such a vehicle. But there are some who decide to keep the stolen car for a while, enjoying the opulence and performance, which might be what happened with this boosted Lamborghini Huracan.

A Lamborghini Aventador Ultimae Roadster is headed to the auction block.

Dashcam footage you can watch below shows Los Angeles police spot the supercar and start following it. When an officer turns on his lights and sirens to initiate a traffic stop, the driver rolls a couple blocks or so before pulling over.

The guy is reasonably compliant, handing over his license and the Lambo’s supposed registration, but after the officer returns and asks him to step out he suddenly become combative. Most likely the suspect could sense he was caught.

After an exchange where the suspect tries claiming special legal knowledge even though he doesn’t know what he’s talking about, the guy drops the hammer, the V10 roaring to life.

We know what you’re thinking: how could police cruisers hope to keep up with a Lamborghini Huracan? Well, they can’t, not even in the best conditions. They can only go as fast as they dare in the direction the supercar takes off and hope for a miracle.

Traffic cameras show the Huracan hits 113 mph in no time. Even though that kind of explosive acceleration keeps him way ahead of the cops, the guy can’t handle the Lamborghini at full tilt. He crashes out.

The guy doesn’t just get in a fender bender, either. He destroys the Lambo, which is a smoldering heap split in two by the time the cops arrive. In the process, the takes out a few trees which litter the street. It’s so bad we’re not even sure there are many usable parts to salvage from the wreckage.

It’s a sad day when a Huracan dies.
