Lamborghini enthusiasts now have a rare opportunity to own a piece of automotive history: the first Lamborghini Countach ever restored by the Italian automaker itself. This stunning red 1988 LP5000 Quattrovalvole, currently listed for sale in Canada through Petrolicious, was rebuilt by Lamborghini’s in-house heritage team, Polo Storico, and remains one of the few models to receive such an exclusive restoration.
Founded in 2015, Lamborghini’s Polo Storico division specializes in restoring vintage Lamborghini models to their former glory, ensuring authenticity down to the smallest detail. Before this team was established, Countach owners seeking restoration had to manage independently. The story of this particular Countach began with its original owner, who reluctantly sold the car after it caught fire in 1988 and was declared a total loss by his insurance company. Acquired by a dedicated Lamborghini collector, the car was set on a path to revival that would become even more challenging as Lamborghini’s focus had shifted to the Countach’s successor, the Diablo.
As the collector began searching for original parts, Lamborghini itself took notice and decided to reach out, offering to take on the restoration. The project was a groundbreaking move for the automaker, marking the first time Lamborghini would handle an in-house restoration of one of its iconic models. The process was both meticulous and costly, totaling $240,000—an amount that surpassed the price of a brand-new Lamborghini Diablo at the time. However, the investment has resulted in a flawless restoration that combines the Countach’s original allure with Lamborghini’s dedication to craftsmanship and authenticity.
This 1988 LP5000 Quattrovalvole model, featuring select 1988 parts and design elements, now looks as pristine as it did in its heyday. For collectors and enthusiasts, this represents a rare opportunity to own not just a Lamborghini Countach, but a piece of the automaker’s heritage. With its unique history and Lamborghini-backed restoration, this Countach is set to be a prized asset for any high-end collection.
