For Porsche enthusiasts looking to combine classic style with modern performance, Theon Design has just unveiled a stunning new restomod based on the 964-generation Porsche 911. Aptly named the “R,” this limited-production build is designed to capture the look and feel of the original 911 R and the 3.2 Club Sport while delivering performance to match today’s high-performance models. Theon plans to produce only 24 examples of the R, with each custom build costing around $1 million.
One of the R’s standout features is its ultra-lightweight design. By stripping down a donor 964 to the chassis and rebuilding it with a reinforced carbon tub and an entire body crafted from carbon fiber, Theon has created a car that weighs just 2,200 pounds—1,000 pounds less than the current Porsche 911 GT3 and even lighter than a Mazda Miata. Aerodynamic updates, including a redesigned front splitter, fender flares, and a whale tail spoiler, enhance performance while maintaining the iconic 911 profile.
The R is powered by a custom-built, air-cooled 4.0-liter flat-six engine that delivers 500 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. Paired with a six-speed manual transmission, this setup lets the car hit 60 mph in just three seconds, matching the acceleration of Porsche’s 992.2 GT3. Thanks to its light weight, the R also boasts a better power-to-weight ratio than any current 911, making it an exhilarating drive.
Developed in collaboration with Motion Control Suspension, the R features a sophisticated suspension system with bespoke, independently adjustable dampers at each corner. This allows for an exceptional balance of comfort and performance on any road surface, ensuring the car handles as impressively as it accelerates.
Theon’s R combines vintage aesthetics with cutting-edge technology, appealing to those who appreciate Porsche’s heritage and performance pedigree. With only 24 planned, the R is an exclusive opportunity for collectors to own a modernized classic that weighs less than a Miata and packs the punch of a supercar.
