British restoration experts Thornley Kelham have introduced the European RS, the first model in their new European Collection, which pays homage to the golden era of European automotive design. Based on the pre-964 generation Porsche 911, the European RS combines classic aesthetics with modern performance, creating a reimagined icon that offers both historical significance and cutting-edge engineering.
Each European RS is meticulously restored and upgraded, requiring over 6,000 hours to complete. The process begins with sourcing a pre-964 Porsche 911 G, chosen for its lightness. The body is stripped down to bare metal and modified to enhance the car’s performance and handling while maintaining its original character. The vehicle’s dimensions are subtly altered, extending its length, reducing its height, and expanding its width, all while preserving its lightweight design. The exterior is finished with concours-standard paint, and the bodywork includes carbon fiber and aluminum components to keep the car’s weight at just 1,070 kg.
Inside, the European RS seamlessly blends classic Porsche design with modern luxury. The cabin features Connolly leather and Alcantara upholstery, with a custom carbon-fiber dashboard, door panels, and bucket seats. The interior is equipped with modern amenities like a Bluetooth-enabled sound system and a lightweight climate control system, ensuring comfort without compromising the car’s performance ethos.
Under the hood, the European RS houses a potent air-cooled flat-six engine derived from the 993-generation Porsche. The engine has been upgraded to 3.8 liters, producing 385 horsepower and 290 lb-ft of torque. The powertrain is mated to a G50 six-speed manual transmission, delivering an exhilarating driving experience reminiscent of the original 911 Carrera RS but with enhanced drivability and refinement.
Thornley Kelham’s European RS is a true masterpiece, merging the timeless appeal of the classic Porsche 911 with the performance and luxury expected by modern enthusiasts. This restomod is not just a tribute to the past but a redefinition of what a classic sports car can be.
