Two High-End Mercedes-AMG Models Totaled in Head-On Collision During Test Drive in India

A test drive in Kochi, India, turned disastrous when two powerful and expensive Mercedes-AMG models collided head-on, totaling both vehicles in an accident valued at over $600,000. The collision, which involved a Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance and an SL 55, left the cars severely damaged and sent all involved to the hospital for treatment. The crash initially occurred two months ago but recently gained attention after images and reports resurfaced on social media.

The sequence of events reportedly began when the driver of the bright orange GT 63 S E Performance lost control after hitting an elevated section of an old railway track. The GT 63 S then rear-ended a Hyundai Accent before swerving into the opposite lane and colliding with an SL 55 that was also being test-driven from the same dealership. According to Kaumudi Online, no fatalities were reported, and all parties received medical attention.

Both luxury models were heavily impacted in the crash. The GT 63 S E Performance’s front end suffered severe damage, with the driver’s side wheel, brake, and suspension components ripped from the car, rendering it irreparable. The SL 55 also sustained major damage, particularly to the passenger side, where the front wheel, bonnet, and one headlight were destroyed. The passenger-side door was torn from the car in the collision, leaving it unrecognizable.

The cost of high-performance Mercedes-AMG models in India far exceeds prices in other markets. The SL 55 is valued at approximately 24.4 million Indian Rupees (around $290,000), while the GT 63 S E Performance starts at 31 million Indian Rupees (roughly $368,000). Both vehicles will likely be sent to a scrapyard following this tragic incident, a harsh end to two powerful machines and a reminder of the risks associated with high-speed test drives on public roads.
