Well-Preserved 1983 Porsche 944 5-Speed Heads to Auction With No Reserve on Bring a Trailer

A 1983 Porsche 944 with just 36,000 miles on the odometer and a well-documented ownership history is set to cross the auction block with no reserve. Originally sold through Manhattan Porsche in Rockville, Maryland, the black-on-black example remained under original ownership until 2019 and is now being offered by a dealer in Pennsylvania.

Finished in Black (code L041) over black vinyl and striped cloth, the 944 is powered by a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter inline-four paired with a five-speed manual transaxle and a limited-slip differential. The early-production 944 retains hallmark features of the model’s debut year, including its iconic pop-up headlights, 15-inch “cookie cutter” wheels, and a functional rear spoiler.

Under previous ownership, the car underwent significant service in 2019 at Heistand Automotive of Manheim, Pennsylvania, which included replacement of the timing belt, water pump, thermostat, crankshaft sensors, and fuel system components. More recently, the speedometer cable was replaced, and the vehicle received an oil change and a new hood insulation pad. The car’s odometer reads 36,000 miles, though its five-digit format suggests it may have rolled over once.

Interior highlights include cloth door panels, a Blaupunkt cassette stereo, converted R134a air conditioning, power windows, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The car also comes with side protection moldings, a top-tinted windshield, factory wheel locks, and an original Porsche alarm system.

The Carfax report notes a minor accident in June 2023 resulting in rear quarter panel damage. Paintless dent repair was completed, and the stone guard was replaced. Otherwise, the car is largely original and retains its matching drivetrain.

This no-reserve sale includes workshop manuals and a clean Pennsylvania title, offering collectors a rare chance to own an early 944 with a compelling backstory and a preserved, period-correct presentation.
