A 2009 Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG Black Series, one of the most extreme performance cars ever built by the German marque, is set to cross the block at the upcoming Saratoga Motorcar Auction. The car will be sold at no reserve, giving bidders the rare chance to take home a limited-production AMG flagship without a minimum price attached.
Built in very small numbers, the SL65 AMG Black Series was developed by Mercedes’ in-house tuner as a track-focused evolution of the SL-Class. Beneath its lightweight carbon-fiber bodywork, the Black Series carries a hand-built 6.0-liter twin-turbocharged V12 producing 661 horsepower. Power is delivered through a five-speed AMG Speedshift automatic transmission, enabling the car to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just over three seconds and reach a top speed of more than 200 mph.
This example is finished in its original black paintwork and features factory leather bucket seats in matching black. Amenities include air conditioning, power steering, power brakes, and the full complement of electric conveniences such as power locks, windows, and top operation.
The SL65 AMG Black Series is distinguished from the standard SL by dramatically widened fenders, fixed roof coupe design, revised suspension, and aggressive aerodynamic enhancements. Its rarity and performance have made it one of the most collectible modern AMG models.
The car is being offered with its title in transit and is sold as-is, where-is, with no warranties expressed or implied. Given its no-reserve status, the sale represents a unique opportunity for collectors to acquire a Mercedes-Benz halo car that continues to appreciate in significance.
