Mercedes-Benz has taken the wraps off its latest motorsport marvel, the Mercedes-AMG GT3 Edition 130Y Motorsport, during the prestigious Monterey Car Week. This limited-edition supercar pays tribute to the brand’s unparalleled 130-year history in racing, dating back to the first-ever automotive competition in 1894, where a Daimler-powered vehicle emerged victorious. Only 13 units of this extraordinary machine will be produced, each priced at over $1.1 million.

The AMG GT3 Edition 130Y is not just a collector’s item; it’s a powerhouse of performance. Touted as the most powerful GT3 car ever built in Affalterbach, this track-only beast is equipped with a naturally aspirated 6.3-liter V8 engine, hand-crafted and fine-tuned to deliver a staggering 671 horsepower. This makes it the final Mercedes-AMG GT3 model to feature a naturally aspirated engine, marking the end of an era.

Performance enhancements don’t stop with the engine. The car boasts a 15% increase in downforce compared to the standard GT3, thanks to a wider rear wing that optimizes aerodynamics. A Drag Reduction System (DRS), inspired by Formula 1 and DTM race cars, allows the GT3 Edition 130Y to reach speeds exceeding 196 mph. Additionally, the car features carbon brake discs, also inspired by Formula 1, ensuring that it can handle the immense power and speed with precision.

The design of the AMG GT3 Edition 130Y draws inspiration from historic Mercedes-Benz race cars, such as the iconic 300 SL W 194 from 1952 and the legendary SLR 300 models from 1955. This design homage is not only a nod to the brand’s rich history but also a testament to its continued dominance in the world of motorsport.

One of the most exciting aspects of the AMG GT3 Edition 130Y is its racing pedigree. A prototype of the car, driven by Mercedes-AMG Performance Driver Jules Gounon, shattered the track record for GT cars at Australia’s Mount Panorama Circuit by 2.074 seconds, clocking a time of 1 minute and 56.605 seconds.

Each of the 13 exclusive units will come with a suite of luxurious extras, including a custom car cover, exclusive Mercedes-AMG x PUMA racing gear, a personalized BELL racing helmet, and a bespoke bag that matches the car’s seat upholstery.
