1978 Ferrari 512 BB Highlights Maranello’s Flat-12 Legacy

In the 1970s, Ferrari redefined its identity with the Berlinetta Boxer series, a mid-engine flat-12 supercar that broke from tradition and helped shape the brand’s modern era. Among the most celebrated of these was the 512 BB, introduced in 1976 as an evolution of the 365 GT4 BB.

The 512 BB retained the striking wedge-shaped design that had debuted earlier in the decade while offering refinements to power, handling, and drivability. Its enlarged 4.9-liter flat-12 engine delivered 355 horsepower through four triple-barrel Weber carburetors, providing blistering performance alongside the balance and composure of a mid-engine layout. Named in reference to Ferrari’s 512 race cars, the BB series quickly became one of the definitive grand tourers of its time.

One example, chassis number 24669, was completed on June 9, 1978, and delivered to Switzerland through Ferrari’s official importer SAVAF. Finished in Rosso Chiaro with Beige Connolly leather, the car is among only about 100 units supplied new to Swiss buyers. Its early ownership records trace through multiple Swiss enthusiasts, with documented mileage of around 56,000 kilometers noted during a 1999 Geneva auction.

In 2015, the car joined The Tailored For Speed Collection via Ferrari dealer Niki Hasler AG of Basel. It has since been meticulously maintained, including a 2021 service by Hasler that replaced belts and ensured mechanical integrity. At the time of cataloguing, the odometer displayed just 58,793 kilometers.

The 512 BB offered today is equipped with 512 BBi wheels and accompanied by its original jack, spare, tools, books, and manuals. With its Formula 1-inspired engine, rarity, and timeless styling, the 512 BB stands as one of the era’s most significant Ferrari road cars.
