For Americans by and large, the Porsche 959 remained forbidden fruit. Only three were imported and made street-legal back in 1992, requiring a special exemption by the federal government, and one of those is going to be auctioned soon.

Historic Porsche racecar to fetch millions at auction.

This 1987 Porsche 959 Komfort is a special vehicle on several levels. Mind-blowingly advanced for its time, rare, incredibly fast, and boasting legendary handling these were a dream ride for so many enthusiasts and still are to this day.

Among the amazing innovations loaded into the 959 are sequential turbochargers, intelligent all-wheel drive, adjustable suspension, and Kevlar composite body panels. The technological wonder originally developed for motorsports prowess, at which it excelled, wowed an entire generation of enthusiasts and influenced many other performance vehicles in the future.

Having gone through a thorough cosmetic restoration, this Porsche 959 looks fantastic. The original owner, Bay Area philanthropist Roger Stone, had this supercar serviced by Porsche specialists, including Canepa Design. In fact, in 2013 he had the Canepa Suspension Upgrade package installed, swapping out the OEM hydraulic adjustable suspension for Penske custom-valved shock absorbers paired with titanium coilovers.

What’s more, in 2015 the current owner had this Porsche upgraded to Canepa “Phase II” specifications, which included high-efficiency turbos and Motec ECU, an investment of $285,000. All that, plus the entire history of this supercar is all documented and ready for the new owner.

Only two people have owned this Porsche 959 Komfort since it was new, providing a lucky third owner the opportunity of a lifetime when it crosses the auction block as part of the Dare to Dream Collection presented by RM Sotheby’s. Even better, this supercar will be auctioned at no reserve, although we expect many will be vying to put this in their collection.
