Every year, droves of automotive enthusiasts descend on Monterey, California for a week of celebrations of the hobby. The events held in an around the city run the range of interests, with The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering being one of the most prestigious. This year the event will shine a light on Porsche, Koenigsegg, and more as the brands celebrate some big milestones.
People are shocked at the maintenance costs for the Aston Martin Valkyrie.
As you might already know, Koenigsegg Automotive is marking 30 years of its momentous existence. The boutique supercar and hypercar automaker, while small, has made an indelible mark on the automotive landscape which surely will be felt for some time.
Speaking of influential cars, the 50th anniversary of the Porsche 911 Turbo Type 930 will also be celebrated at The Quail. While many Porsche fans have strong opinions about which generations and models of 911s are superior, everyone can agree the Turbo has been impactful to the grand tourer’s ongoing legacy.
Back when the 930 Turbo debuted, it was affectionately known as the “Widowmaker” with many enthusiasts agreeing the forced-induction 911 was borderline insanity on wheels.
Also being honored at The Quail is British brand MG, which this year turns 100 years old. While now under Chinese ownership and producing vehicles which are nothing like the MGs most revere, those classic models are still held in high regard by many enthusiasts and collectors.
Koenigsegg not only has created vehicles with wild styling, but like the Porsche 930 Turbo they have pushed the envelope for performance engineering. It seems fitting these two will share the spotlight at the gathering.
World Rally Cars will also be receiving a tribute of sorts as the final featured theme for the 2024 event.
The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering is held in conjunction with the Bonhams The Quail Auction. Both take place at the Quail Lodge & Golf Club in Carmel, California.
