While any 1957 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster is enough to turn heads and create a buzz at any automotive gathering, this particular one set to auction at Amelia Island is particularly captivating. Painstakingly restored with all-original parts, not a single item being a reproduction, combined with many unique factory feature and upgrades helps this stand out from others.

A 2021 Lamborghini Sian is also auctioning soon.

You might be marveling at that unique green hue, which is the factory paint, one of only four to ever get Sonderlackierung DB 218 Linden Green. Complementing it perfectly is the factory steel hardtop finished in black and genuine Roadster 5 1/2 inch Rudge knock-off wheels. The presentation is undeniably appealing.

That’s only the beginning of what makes this 300 SL Roadster such a catch. It’s a numbers-matching car with a number of optional factory performance upgrades. Among them is a competition sport suspension, Mahle 9.5:1 high compression pistons, 4.11:1 differential gears, Ansa performance exhaust, and ventilation brake scoops.

Like the rest of this classic Mercedes, the interior is all period-correct and in virtually perfect condition. The Roser vegetable tanned Cream leather upholstery matches what was applied in the factory, as does the square weave carpeting.

Extra goodies include a Helphos spotlight, Heuer Super Autavia chronograph, Halda Speed Pilot, Heuer Monte-Carlo chronograph, and a navigator mounted horn control. As they say, the devil is in the details and in those this Roadster excels.

According to Robert Platz of Precision Autoworks, who painstakingly restored this classic, over 20 of the unique features on this car would be impossible to replicate. It is truly a one-of-a-kind and so we expect interest in this 1957 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster will be high when it crosses the block.

Broad Arrow Auctions estimates it will fetch between $2,000,000 and $2,500,000 but it’s conceivable that range will be exceeded. We will see soon enough during the auction house’s The Amelia Auction 2024.
