Restored Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa To Auction Soon

It’s not every day we see a Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa cross the auction block, although some might feel like they’re suffering a case of déjà vu as of late. While the buzz around a fine example which is part of the upcoming Sotheby’s Sealed event is building, you might recall that not long ago another one sold, though through a private transaction and not at auction.

Ferrari has painted a bright picture for its 2024 outlook.

The previous sale was only announced by Gooding & Company late last month. Unrestored, the classic Ferrari changed hands for a rumored $40,000,000, although that figure can’t be confirmed. Regardless, it’s helping fuel speculation about the upcoming auction and what heights the top bid might reach.

Legendary even among the most well-heeled Ferrari collectors around the globe, many regard the 250 Testa Rossa to be a masterpiece. Sergio Scaglietti himself designed the curvaceous body as well as the multitube cage underneath. When fitted with its celebrated V12, the car was virtually unstoppable on race circuits.

This particular example, chassis no. 0738 TR, rolled out of the Maranello assembly facility in early 1958, one of only 19 to ever be completed. With such rarity combined with beauty and an impeccable motorsports pedigree, it’s no wonder 250 Testa Rossas always create a stir whenever they make a public appearance.

Like its siblings, chassis no. 0738 TR spent time on the racetrack, boasting an active career as a racecar for more than a decade. According to Sotheby’s, records indicate it captured four overall victories out of 20 races during that time, making for an impressive history.

You’ll not that unlike the example to have sold in a private transaction recently, this Ferrari 250 TR has gone through a full restoration conducted by Ferrari Classiche and has been Red Book certified as a numbers-matching car.

With such a buttoned-up presentation, drop-dead looks, and a fine pedigree, there’s little doubt this Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa will fetch top dollar while on the auction block. Estimates are around $38,000,000 but we wouldn’t be shocked to learn the top bid crosses the $40,000,000 mark.
