A 1980 Ferrari 308 GTSi with more than three decades of single-collection ownership is scheduled to cross the auction block later this month at the Kruse Auburn Spring 2026 auction, offering collectors a chance to acquire one of the brand’s most recognizable models.
The vehicle, part of The Dane Miller Estate Collection, will be offered during the Auburn Spring 2026 auction on April 25. The car has remained under the same ownership for 36 years, having been acquired in December 1990 through a series of private transactions.
The 308 GTSi represents a notable chapter in Ferrari’s evolution at the start of the 1980s. Originally derived from the 308 GTB introduced in 1975, the model carried forward a mid-engine layout and sharp, wedge-shaped styling that helped define the look of modern Ferraris. The GTS variant added a removable targa roof, allowing for open-air driving while maintaining the car’s distinctive profile.
For the 1980 model year, Ferrari introduced fuel injection to the platform, replacing earlier carbureted systems. The change was driven by tightening emissions requirements and resulted in improved drivability and reliability. Power comes from a 2.9-liter V8 engine mounted behind the cockpit and paired with a five-speed manual transaxle, delivering the engaging driving experience expected from the brand.
Production of the fuel-injected GTSi variant was limited to approximately 1,750 units over a three-year span, making it a relatively short-lived version within the broader 308 lineup. This example, identified as a first-year model, is finished in Rosso Corsa with a tan interior, a color combination closely associated with Ferrari’s heritage.
The car is equipped with 16-inch Campagnolo alloy wheels, a Nardi steering wheel, and a Blaupunkt stereo system with period accessories. A tool roll and jack kit will accompany the sale.
Beyond its engineering and design, the 308 GTSi gained widespread recognition through its presence in a popular television series, where it became closely associated with a laid-back, adventurous lifestyle. Over time, the model has come to symbolize an era of automotive enthusiasm, frequently appearing as a poster car for a generation of enthusiasts.
As it heads to auction, the long-held example presents a rare opportunity to acquire a well-preserved piece of Ferrari history with both cultural and mechanical significance.
