Historic Pair of Midyear Corvettes Headed to Mecum Indy 2026 Auction

Two historically significant Chevrolet Corvettes representing the beginning and end of the famed Midyear generation are scheduled to cross the block together at the Mecum Indy 2026 auction on Saturday, May 16.

Known as “The Midyear Corvette Bookends Pair Offering,” the lot features a 1963 Corvette Sting Ray convertible believed to be the earliest-known second-generation Corvette and a 1967 Corvette convertible recognized as the final Midyear convertible produced.

The Riverside Red 1963 Corvette carries serial number 30867S100003 and is regarded by Corvette historian Noland Adams as the first Corvette Sting Ray made available to the public. Records from the National Corvette Restorers Society confirm the car shipped on Aug. 29, 1962, with a dealer code.

The car underwent a comprehensive restoration that included reuniting it with its original fuel-injected 327-cubic-inch V-8 engine rated at 360 horsepower. The current owner located the engine through contact with the vehicle’s second owner before it was rebuilt and returned to the car. Power is delivered through a 4-speed manual transmission.

The early-production Sting Ray also contains several uncommon hand-built details unique to the earliest examples of the model. Among them are manually machined sand-cast headlight mechanisms, specialized outer door panels, shortened stainless trim pieces, luggage compartment carpeting resembling 1962 models and handmade windshield reveal moldings. The car is also accompanied by its original removable hardtop and historical photographs.

Joining it is a Tuxedo Black 1967 Corvette convertible bearing serial number 194677S122938, documented as the final Midyear Corvette convertible built. Production was completed on July 12, 1967.

The factory Triple Black example retains its matching-numbers 327/300-horsepower V-8 engine and M20 4-speed transmission. It has earned an NCRS Top Flight award and includes extensive documentation, including its original Protect-O-Plate, engine stamp and trim tag affirmations, ownership history, shipping data report and owner’s manual.

Together, the pair represents a rare opportunity to acquire two milestone Corvettes tied directly to the launch and conclusion of one of the marque’s most celebrated eras. See them here.
