Koenigsegg has officially begun production of its long-awaited Gemera, marking a significant milestone for the Swedish automaker six years after the model was first introduced.
Originally unveiled in early 2020 through an online presentation following the cancellation of the Geneva Motor Show, the Gemera stood apart from traditional hypercars due to its four-seat configuration. Designed to accommodate four adults, the vehicle challenged the conventional two-seat layout typical of the segment, positioning itself as a more versatile high-performance offering.

At launch, the Gemera featured an unconventional hybrid system combining a 2.0-liter three-cylinder engine with three electric motors. This setup was engineered to produce 1,677 horsepower and 2,581 pound-feet of torque, highlighting Koenigsegg’s focus on innovation and performance efficiency.
However, the powertrain underwent notable revisions in the years following its debut. In 2023, the company streamlined the system by replacing the three electric motors with a single, more powerful unit. While this simplified the drivetrain, it also reduced total output to 1,400 horsepower and 1,364 pound-feet of torque.
To address performance expectations, Koenigsegg introduced an alternative configuration featuring a hybrid-assisted 5.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 paired with the upgraded electric motor. This version significantly increased output to 2,300 horsepower and 2,028 pound-feet of torque, ultimately becoming the sole powertrain option after customer interest in the three-cylinder variant proved minimal.
Despite these changes, the core concept of the Gemera remains intact. The model retains its spacious interior and distinctive positioning as a hypercar capable of carrying multiple passengers without compromising performance.
Production of the Gemera will be limited to 300 units, all of which have already been sold. The model is priced at approximately $1.7 million and will be built alongside other Koenigsegg vehicles, including the CC850 and the Jesko-based Sadair’s Spear, as the company continues to expand its lineup of high-performance, limited-production cars.
