A one-of-a-kind electric vehicle created by BYD’s luxury sub-brand Denza in collaboration with Chopard sold for $815,000 at auction in Cannes, drawing attention for its blend of advanced EV technology, jewelry-inspired design and charitable purpose.
The custom Denza Chopard Z9GT was offered during the 32nd annual AMFAR Gala Cannes, with proceeds from the sale directed toward AIDS research. The result placed the bespoke electric grand tourer among the more striking automotive offerings tied to the event, combining luxury branding with a high-performance electric platform.
Denza, positioned as BYD’s premium division, used its Z9GT as the basis for the special build. Chopard added extensive decorative touches intended to give the EV a more jewel-like character. The exterior features gold accents, while the cabin carries the strongest expression of the partnership.
Inside, amethyst stones were incorporated into several interior trim areas, including controls for the seats and air conditioning. The gemstone detailing also surrounds the 17.3-inch infotainment display, which features a custom Chopard-themed interface. The Chopard “C” logo appears throughout the cabin, including on the headrests, carpets and wireless phone charging pad.
Although the design emphasizes luxury and craftsmanship, the Z9GT also carries substantial performance credentials. The EV uses BYD’s e3 platform and second-generation Blade Battery system. Its three-motor setup produces more than 1,150 horsepower, giving the vehicle the ability to accelerate from zero to 62 mph in less than three seconds.
Charging capability is another major part of the car’s technical story. The Z9GT uses 1,500-kilowatt charging technology, allowing it to recharge in as little as nine minutes. It can also charge from 10% to 70% in five minutes. The cabin further includes wood accents and a 20-speaker theater-grade audio system from Devialet.
The sale underscored growing interest in ultra-luxury electric vehicles that combine performance with bespoke design. While the Chopard edition was built as a single example and is not available to buyers, BYD plans to bring the Z9GT to the European market in 2026.
With its rare specification, high-performance electric drivetrain and philanthropic auction result, the Denza Chopard Z9GT stands as a notable example of how automakers are using special collaborations to position EVs beyond transportation and into the world of luxury collectibles.
