1. 1969 Porsche 917K – “Le Mans” Hero Car
Auction house: Mecum Auctions, Kissimmee 2025 (January 18, 2025)
Result: Bidding reached $25,000,000 but the reserve was not met at the live auction; it was reportedly sold in a subsequent private transaction near that figure in early 2025.
McQueen connection: Chassis 917-022 was purchased new in 1970 directly from Porsche by McQueen and his production company, Solar Productions, and used as the camera/hero car in his 1971 film “Le Mans.” It is currently part of Jerry Seinfeld’s collection.

2. 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4 by Scaglietti
Auction house: RM Sotheby’s, Monterey 2014
Result: Sold for $10,175,000
McQueen connection: Delivered new to McQueen in late 1967 while he filmed “Bullitt,” replacing a NART Spyder he had crashed. He owned it for roughly four years before selling it to actor Guy Williams.

3. 1968 Ford Mustang GT 390 – “Bullitt” Hero Car
Auction house: Mecum Auctions, Kissimmee 2020 (January 10, 2020)
Result: Sold for $3,740,000, a record at the time for a Mustang at auction
McQueen connection: The Highland Green fastback McQueen drove on screen in the famous “Bullitt” chase; kept out of public view for nearly 50 years by the Kiernan family before its 2020 sale.

4. 1963 Ferrari 250 GT/L Lusso
Auction house: Christie’s, Monterey (August 2007)
Result: Sold for $2,310,000, roughly triple its pre-sale estimate
McQueen connection: Purchased new by McQueen in 1963; he was photographed driving it up the California coast with wife Neile and photographer William Claxton. He sold it in 1973 to collector Tom Sherwood.

5. 1976 Porsche 930 Turbo Carrera

McQueen connection: Documented as McQueen’s last special-order Porsche, finished in a special Slate Gray. He later added wider wheels and a dashboard switch to kill the taillights. A portion of the sale proceeds benefited The Boys Republic, the youth reform school McQueen credited with turning his life around.

6. 1970 Porsche 911S – “Le Mans” Movie Car

7. 1953 Siata 208S Spyder

Result: Sold for $946,000
McQueen connection: Bought by McQueen around 1956 as a young actor; he removed the Siata badges and replaced them with Ferrari ones, nicknaming it his “little Ferrari.” Later owner Dr. Bruce Sand recalled McQueen once commandeering the car for a flat-out run up Coldwater Canyon and Mulholland Drive.

McQueen connection: An off-road racer developed with backing from Hurst Shifters and engineer Vic Hickey; purchased and campaigned by McQueen’s firm, Solar Plastics Engineering. His friend and stunt double Bud Ekins won the 1969 Baja 500 driving it.

Notable mention: not sold at public auction
McQueen’s own 1956 Jaguar XKSS, nicknamed the “Green Rat,” has never crossed a public auction block; it has remained in private and family hands and has been informally valued in the tens of millions. Only unrelated “continuation” XKSS models built by Jaguar decades later, evoking McQueen’s car, have appeared at auction (for example, at RM Sotheby’s).
