Restored 1958 BMW Isetta 600 From Estate Collection Heads to Kruse Auburn Spring Auction

A distinctive example of postwar European automotive design is set to cross the auction stage at Auburn Spring 2026, as a 1958 BMW Isetta 600 from The Oscar Roberts Estate Collection heads to sale without reserve. Scheduled for April 24, the vehicle highlights a unique chapter in BMW’s recovery and transformation during the late 1950s.

The Isetta 600 was introduced as a more practical evolution of BMW’s earlier microcars, offering increased utility while maintaining the brand’s compact engineering approach. Built with a longer wheelbase and configured to seat four passengers, the model marked a significant step toward more conventional automobile design. Power comes from a rear-mounted, air-cooled 582 cc two-cylinder engine paired with a four-speed manual transmission, delivering modest output while enabling improved drivability compared to earlier versions.

This particular example has been part of a long-term private collection since 1998 and underwent a comprehensive, documented restoration led by Isetta specialist Bill Rogers of South Carolina. The multiyear project included sourcing components from recognized suppliers to ensure accuracy, along with extensive documentation through invoices and photographs.

Finished in a distinctive two-tone combination of Azure Blue and Lichtgrau, the vehicle stands apart from more commonly seen color schemes. The paintwork was applied in Georgia, while the interior features faux leather and woven upholstery, accessible through both the iconic front-hinged entry door and an additional side door for rear passengers.

Mechanical components were also addressed during the restoration, ensuring the small but capable engine and drivetrain remain functional. The car received additional servicing in 2024, further supporting its readiness for use. Producing 23 horsepower, the Isetta 600 is capable of reaching practical driving speeds, offering a blend of novelty and usability.

As one of the less commonly seen four-seat variants, the model represents a transitional moment in BMW’s history, bridging the gap between microcars and more traditional vehicles. Accompanied by documentation and an instruction manual copy, the car is positioned as both a collectible and a conversation piece.

With more than two decades in a single collection, the Isetta 600 now prepares for a new chapter, offering enthusiasts an opportunity to acquire a well-documented and thoughtfully restored example of BMW’s innovative past.
