The Koenigsegg Jesko Attack has just made its mark on automotive history by setting a new production car lap record at Laguna Seca. With a blistering time of 1 minute and 24.86 seconds, the Jesko Attack outpaced the previous record-holder, the Czinger 21C, which had clocked a 1 minute and 25.44-second lap in 2021. This latest achievement further solidifies Koenigsegg’s reputation for pushing the boundaries of speed and performance.
What makes this record even more impressive is the fact that both the car and the driver were relatively new to the track. Koenigsegg’s test driver, Markus Lundh, had never driven at Laguna Seca before, other than in virtual simulations. Despite this lack of experience on the 2.2-mile track, Lundh managed to navigate its infamous Corkscrew and other challenging corners with remarkable precision, showcasing the Jesko Attack’s incredible capabilities.
The Jesko Attack is the track-focused variant of the Koenigsegg Jesko, specifically engineered for high-speed cornering and lap time domination rather than sheer top speed. This version features a massive rear wing and generates an astonishing 1,000 kg of downforce at 171 mph. Powering the Jesko Attack is a 5.1-liter flat-plane-crank V8 engine, equipped with twin turbochargers that produce a staggering 1,578 horsepower and 1,106 lb-ft of torque. The car can reach its 8,500 rpm redline in just 0.2 seconds, a testament to its extreme engineering.
Christian von Koenigsegg, the founder of the company, expressed his pride in the achievement, highlighting the fact that both Lundh and the car had never tackled Laguna Seca before this record-setting run. The new lap time adds yet another feather to Koenigsegg’s cap, following a recent record at the Gotland Ring. With this success under their belt, all eyes are now on what the Jesko Attack might achieve at other legendary circuits, including the Nürburgring.
