1958 Porsche 356A Emory Outlaw Cabriolet Returns to Market With Racing Pedigree

A modified 1958 Porsche 356A Emory Outlaw Cabriolet race car is currently being offered on consignment with a live bid of $80,000 and seven days remaining in the sale. The car is part of Mohr Imports’ Pacific Porsche Collection and is listed by a selling dealer that serves as a local partner for Bring a Trailer.

The cabriolet was built by Reutter and was acquired by a prior owner in the early 2000s as a rolling project. It was subsequently sent to Emory Motorsports, where the late Gary Emory oversaw its transformation for vintage racing use. Modifications included the installation of a replacement 1,620cc flat-four engine, a Type 741/2 four-speed manual transaxle, four-wheel disc brakes, and a roll bar. Additional changes included a central fuel filler and an inverted-louver engine lid.

After completion, the car competed in CSRG and SOVREN events throughout the Pacific Northwest. It was first featured on Bring a Trailer in September 2007, then appeared again in March 2009 following a partial repaint. Chassis 150601 later spent several years in Germany before being acquired by the current owner in 2017.

The exterior is finished in red with white roundels, while a removable hardtop and portions of the upper bodywork were later refinished in black with orange pinstriping. Pegasus graphics were added to the fenders. The seller notes visible paint chips and flaws. Exterior equipment includes driving lights, headlight guards, windshield retainers, a Sebring-style side mirror, a rear tow hook, an external cutoff switch, and a central exhaust outlet.

The car rides on 15×5.5-inch alloy wheels fitted with Hoosier Speedster tires. Braking is handled by a four-wheel disc setup. Inside, the cabin features fixed-back bucket seats trimmed in black upholstery with red houndstooth inserts, along with a roll bar, fire suppression system, leather window straps, and a Schroth safety net. Harnesses are valid through 2030.

Instrumentation includes green-letter VDO gauges with an 8,000-rpm tachometer. The five-digit odometer shows 97,000 miles, though total mileage is unknown. Power comes from a 1,620cc flat-four sourced from a 912, equipped with dual Solex carburetors, a billet aluminum oil sump, and an Ahnendorp exhaust. A Fuel Safe fuel cell is mounted in the front trunk.

The sale includes a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, a SOVREN logbook, service records, and a clean Montana title held by the owner’s LLC. See it here.
