A piece of American muscle car history is up for grabs in a new charity contest, with a fully restored 1965 Pontiac GTO convertible serving as the grand prize.

The GTO Dream Giveaway offers entrants the chance to win a car widely credited with helping kick off the muscle car era. Finished in Starlight Black with a parchment interior and a white convertible top, the vehicle pairs classic styling with the performance credentials that made the model a legend.

Power comes from a 389-cubic-inch Tri-Power V-8 rated at 360 horsepower, mated to a four-speed manual transmission. That factory Tri-Power setup, which uses three two-barrel carburetors, was among the most sought-after configurations of its day and gives the car the distinctive sound and aggressive character collectors prize.

Beyond its drivetrain, the GTO carries provenance that adds to its appeal. It is an original California Black Plate car, a designation that signals its long history in the state, and it has been restored and outfitted with desirable factory options. The convertible is also one of just 11,311 droptop GTOs built for the 1965 model year, a production figure that underscores its relative scarcity.

The contest doubles as a fundraising effort. Entrants make a donation that supports charities benefiting veterans and children, and each contribution enters them for a chance at the grand prize. Organizers have also pledged to ease the burden on the eventual winner by paying $30,000 toward the federal prize taxes associated with the car.

The giveaway runs from June 12, 2026, through October 8, 2026, with the winner scheduled to be drawn on October 21, 2026. Supporters who want a shot at adding the classic Pontiac to their collection while backing the contest’s charitable causes can enter throughout that window.
