A black 1996 Dodge Viper RT/10 roadster with silver stripes is for sale at Freije & Freije Auctioneers as Lot 78411 in The Fall Big Boy Toy Auction hosted by The Auto Dealers Exchange in Indianapolis. The car is slated for the Day 2 Saturday afternoon Classic and Collector Car session on October 31, with online bidding opening October 30 at noon. It is exactly the kind of Viper collectors look for: the 8.0-liter V10, a six-speed manual, 17-inch HRE wheels and an odometer reading of 61,197 miles.

The RT/10 is the Viper in its purest form, a two-seat roadster built around a huge engine with little in the way of electronic help. The 1996 model year brought meaningful updates to the open car, including a rear-exit exhaust in place of the early side pipes, which you can see on this car in the auction photos. Black paint with silver stripes suits the shape well, and the stripes run the full length of the car from nose to tail.

Lift the front-hinged clamshell and the centerpiece is the 8.0-liter V10, its red intake runners stretched across the engine bay. The listing gallery includes several clear engine-bay shots, and the bay presents as tidy and complete, the way an enthusiast-owned Viper should.

The numbers back up the looks. A Dynojet sheet from Powerhouse Mobile Dyno, included in the Freije & Freije listing, shows a best run of 411.86 horsepower at 4,690 rpm and 522.99 lb-ft of torque at 3,450 rpm. For prospective bidders, a documented dyno pull is a welcome sign that the car has been run and measured, not just parked.

Inside, the RT/10 keeps things simple, with black leather bucket seats, a center console with the shifter for the six-speed manual, and an open top that puts the driver right in the noise. Interior photos in the ad show the cockpit from above, giving a good look at the seats, console and carpets.

The driver faces a Viper-badged steering wheel and a classic analog instrument cluster, with the tachometer and speedometer front and center. Close-up photos of the dash let bidders inspect the gauges and wheel before the car crosses the block.

The car rides on 17-inch HRE wheels, a respected name in performance wheels that pairs well with the Viper’s muscular fenders. The polished five-spoke design and big tires show up in multiple wheel shots in the listing, and they give the black roadster a clean, purposeful stance.

From behind, the stripes carry over the rear deck to the twin center exhaust outlets, one of the visual signatures of the 1996 RT/10. The rear view in the auction gallery shows why the Viper still turns heads three decades after it launched.

The photos also show a Viper RT/10 service manual and keys with the car. Bidding on Lot 78411 opens at $5 with $5 increments, and a 10 percent buyer’s premium applies, plus a 2.5 percent fee for online bidding. For anyone who wants a first-generation V10 roadster with a six-speed and real character, this black RT/10 is worth a close look before October 31.
