Few silhouettes in American car culture hit harder than a red 1966 Mustang fastback wearing GT350 stripes, and Freije & Freije Auctioneers has one on the docket this fall. This 1966 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 tribute fastback is set to cross the block at The Fall Big Boy Toy Auction hosted by The Auto Dealers Exchange in Indianapolis, pairing the classic Shelby look with a stroked 289 V8 and a four-speed manual.

The Shelby Look, Done Right
The formula behind the original GT350 was simple: take Ford’s lightweight fastback, give it more power and a sharper attitude, and let it run. This tribute car captures that spirit with bright red paint, white rocker stripes with GT350 lettering, a blacked-out grille and five-spoke wheels that give it the stance of a car built to be driven hard rather than parked behind a rope.

289 Stroker V8 Power
The heart of the build is a 289 stroker V8, giving the classic small-block more displacement and more torque than the factory ever offered in a stock Mustang. Breathing through an aluminum four-barrel intake topped by a finned air cleaner, and exhaling through headers and a dual exhaust, it promises the sound and response that define a proper Shelby-style small-block. A chassis brace across the engine bay adds to the purposeful look under the hood.

Four-Speed Manual Engagement
Power goes to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission, the only way a car like this should be ordered. Rowing your own gears is what makes a vintage fastback feel alive, and it keeps this Mustang true to the hands-on character that made the GT350 a legend on road and track.

Red Paint and a Classic Profile
From every angle, the red fastback body shows off the long hood, short deck proportions that made the 1965 and 1966 Mustang fastbacks so desirable. The paint shines under the showroom lights, the chrome bumpers and trim frame the nose and tail, and the white stripes running along the rockers tie the whole look together.

Around back, the classic Mustang tail wears its trademark tri-bar taillights and gas cap in the center, while the sweeping fastback roofline flows cleanly into the rear deck. It is a shape that still turns heads at any cruise night or car show six decades later.

Black Interior With a Wood-Rim Wheel
Open the door and the black interior continues the theme with black bucket seats, black door panels and a wood-rim steering wheel in front of the classic Mustang gauge cluster. The rear of the cabin has been finished in black with a flat load floor, a nod to the stripped-down, function-first approach of the original Shelby cars.

Odometer and Identity
The odometer currently reads 20,102 miles, and the VIN plate confirms its identity as a 1966 Ford Mustang fastback, VIN 6F09C297370. For buyers who want the GT350 experience without the price of an original Shelby, this tribute offers the look, the sound and the stick-shift fun of the real thing in a package that can be enjoyed on the open road.
