A wave of nostalgia is set to roll across the auction floor later this month when two dozen classic minibikes, including several vintage Hondas, are offered at Freije & Freije Auctioneers’ Fall Big Boy Toy Auction. The two-day sale, scheduled for September 26–27 at the Auto Dealers Exchange Indianapolis, will feature more than 400 lots of collector cars, trucks, automobilia and motorcycles.
Among the highlights of the minibike collection are three standouts from Honda’s golden era of small-displacement machines. A 1969 Honda Z50A Hard Tail finished in Candy Blue and Cloud Silver recalls the earliest days of Honda’s pocket-sized fun bikes. By 1970, Honda had expanded the line with the CT70 Trail, represented at Indy by a restored Candy Gold example. That bike featured a slightly larger frame and fold-down handlebars, making it popular with riders who wanted portability along with rugged capability.
Also crossing the block is a 1974 Honda Z50A in Candy Topaz Orange. Like its predecessors, the Z50A combined Honda reliability with playful styling and became a favorite starter machine for countless enthusiasts. Both the CT70 and Z50A examples on offer have been restored, making them especially appealing to collectors.
Each of the minibikes will be offered with a $5 opening bid and carry a 10% buyer’s premium. While the cars often dominate headlines at the Big Boy Toy Auction, these pint-sized Hondas are expected to draw significant attention from bidders eager to recapture a slice of two-wheeled history.
