Three Standout Cars Set the Tone for Mecum’s Kissimmee 2026 Auction

Mecum Auctions is preparing for its annual Kissimmee sale, and three high-profile consignments scheduled for January 17 are emerging as early focal points. The offerings range from a historic NHRA championship car to a custom Corvette built around modern Z06 hardware and a rare aluminum-bodied Cobra from Autokraft.

The most historically significant of the group is the 1984 Chevrolet Camaro Pro Stock race car campaigned by Reher-Morrison and driven by four-time NHRA Pro Stock champion Lee Shepherd. The car captured both the 1984 NHRA and IHRA championships, and has remained under the care of its current owner since 1988. Restored to its period racing configuration, it retains its Reher-Morrison “Old Smokey” 498-ci Chevrolet engine, high-rise intake, dual carburetors and Cyclone headers. The fiberglass-bodied Camaro sits on a spider chassis composed of nearly 220 feet of tubing and uses a manually shifted transmission operated through a Hurst Lightning Rod shifter. It crosses the block at no reserve.

Another Saturday highlight is a 1966 Chevrolet Corvette Custom Convertible, a frame-off build constructed using a 2007 Corvette Z06 donor car. The project is centered around an SRIII tubular chassis and a 7.0-liter LS7 dry-sump V8 paired with a Tremec TKO 600 five-speed manual transmission. The exterior wears DuPont Hot Rod Black paint with full ceramic coating, while the interior integrates the 2007 Z06 digital gauge cluster, Z06-style seating, and custom carbon-fiber accents. The car was engineered so that its electronics can be serviced at any Chevrolet dealership using standard 2007 Z06 diagnostics. Additional features include carbon-fiber aero components, flush-mount Aston Martin door handles, a Kenwood navigation system, and carbon-fiber wheels.

Rounding out the trio is a 1986 Shelby Cobra Replica Roadster built by Autokraft of England, one of just 480 examples listed in the AC Cobra Mk IV registry. Constructed with aluminum bodywork and powered by a 351-ci Ford V8 and a five-speed manual transmission, the car presents in red with white stripes over tan leather. Equipment includes side curtains, a soft top, knock-off wheels and dual exhaust. It is titled as an AC and includes known ownership history.

All three vehicles are set to cross the block on January 17, part of the broader Mecum Kissimmee 2026 event running January 6–18, which is expected to feature more than 4,000 consignments across classic, racing and collectible categories.
