Manual Capricorn 01 Zagato Moves Closer to Production With Second Prototype Debut

Capricorn Group, a longtime supplier to top-tier international motorsports series, is taking another step toward production of its first road-going hypercar. The company has revealed a second prototype of the Capricorn 01 Zagato and confirmed that customer deliveries are expected to begin later this year.

The latest prototype made its public debut at Salon Rétromobile in Paris, marking a key milestone in the project’s development. Capricorn has also begun construction of a third prototype as part of its ongoing validation process. The hypercar was officially launched in October, and the company has since focused on calibration and real-world testing to refine its design and engineering decisions ahead of series production.

According to Capricorn, each new prototype plays a critical role in aligning design intent, mechanical performance, and driver experience. The development program is intended to confirm that major engineering choices perform as expected under real conditions before the final production phase begins.

The Capricorn 01 Zagato is built around a carbon-fiber monocoque chassis and is powered by a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine. Output is rated at 888 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque. In a notable departure from current hypercar trends, power is sent exclusively to the rear wheels through a five-speed dogleg manual transmission.

Performance targets place the car firmly in modern hypercar territory. Capricorn projects a 0–62 mph time of under three seconds and a top speed of 224 mph, figures that position the 01 Zagato among the fastest manually shifted road cars planned for production.

Production will be extremely limited. Capricorn plans to build just 19 examples of the Zagato-bodied hypercar, with sales handled through the Louyet Group, a luxury automotive retailer. The company reports that only a small number of build slots remain available.

Each car carries a price of €2.95 million, or approximately $3.5 million at current exchange rates. With prototype development accelerating and deliveries scheduled to begin later this year, the Capricorn 01 Zagato is now transitioning from an ambitious concept to a near-production reality.
