Aumann Auctions is giving prewar American motorcycle enthusiasts a rare opportunity: a 1941 Indian Four sidecar outfit offered for the first time since 1974 as Lot 23 in its Don Henley Automobile Collection & Vintage Motorcycles sale. The motorcycle comes from the collection of a 50-year Antique Motorcycle Club of America member and 75-year Indian collector.

For Indian devotees, a late-production Four is a crowd favorite, and this one shows why. The Aumann Auctions listing describes the machine as presenting itself in its mostly original working clothes, which is exactly the kind of honest, unfussed condition that serious collectors look for.

Riding alongside it is a period-correct Indian sidecar, turning the Four into a complete rig with real presence. According to the Aumann Auctions lot description, the outfit shows every sign of former police service. The catalog is candid that no documentation exists to prove it, but the indications are there, and the story adds to the character of the machine.

Paperwork is a strength. The sale includes a great record of receipts and service history, giving a future owner a clear picture of how the motorcycle has been cared for over the decades. It also carries a good Illinois title.

Mechanically, the Indian Four benefited from a no-expense-spared motor overhaul in 1998 by Dick Davies. That work means the heart of the machine is ready for a new chapter, whether the next owner chooses to ride it or simply admire it.

The best part may be the flexibility. As Aumann Auctions notes, a buyer can restore the Indian Four or enjoy it just as it is, in its working clothes. Either path suits a motorcycle that the catalog says will make a great addition to the most advanced collection.

Bidding is already active. As of October 19, Lot 23 stood at a current bid of $40,500 after 20 bids, with online bidding scheduled to close on November 9, 2026. Interested collectors can review the full details, bid history and terms on the Aumann Auctions lot page.

Long-term ownership is increasingly hard to find, and that is part of what makes this 1941 Indian Four special. Offered for the first time in more than 50 years, with an overhauled engine, a period-correct sidecar and a service record to match, it deserves a close look from anyone building a serious Indian collection.

Aumann Auctions is proud to present an extraordinary collection of vintage automobiles and motorcycles spanning generations of American motoring history. Carefully assembled with an emphasis on quality, condition, craftsmanship and significance, this collection brings together some of the most recognizable machines ever to travel the American road.
