An extraordinarily rare 2009 Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Stirling Moss, one of only 75 examples produced worldwide, is now being offered for auction in Germany. Finished in Antimony Grey Crystal and showing just 971 kilometers (603 miles) on the odometer, this car represents one of the purest and most collectible expressions of Mercedes-Benz’s SLR lineage.
Conceived as a tribute to Stirling Moss’s legendary victory in the 1955 Mille Miglia behind the wheel of a 300 SLR, the Stirling Moss edition takes inspiration from motorsport’s golden era. Like its namesake, it is stripped of a roof, side windows, and a conventional windshield, emphasizing an unfiltered driving experience. Korean designer Yoon Il-hun shaped the car’s arrow-like silhouette, with dual rear aerodynamic humps, exposed carbon fiber details, and an active rear air brake that deploys at up to 35 degrees for stability at high speed.
Under the sculpted carbon fiber bodywork lies the supercharged 5.4-liter AMG V8, producing 641 horsepower and 605 pound-feet of torque. Paired with a five-speed AMG Speedshift automatic, the lightweight barchetta accelerates to 60 mph in about three seconds and is capable of 217 mph. Compared to the standard SLR, the Stirling Moss edition sheds more than 400 pounds and benefits from stiffer suspension tuning, aluminum Koni dampers, and sharpened steering response. Carbon-ceramic brakes provide stopping power worthy of its performance.
Inside, the cockpit features one-piece carbon bucket seats trimmed in black leather with white stitching, accented by aluminum and carbon fiber throughout. A plaque bearing Stirling Moss’s engraved signature reinforces the car’s link to racing heritage.
