Restomod Lotus Elise Restomod Buts Drivers in the Middle, Literally

A boutique British shop is reimagining one of the lightest sports cars of the 1990s, and they’ve managed to make it even lighter. UK-based Analogue Automotive has unveiled the VHPK Lotus Elise restomod, a radical take on the Series 1 Elise that strips weight, centers the driver, and emphasizes the brand’s original philosophy of “simplify, then add lightness.”

The VHPK project takes direct inspiration from early Elise racers, which occasionally featured a single, centrally mounted driver’s seat. In this modern interpretation, the traditional twin-seat layout has been replaced with a lone carbon-fiber bucket positioned squarely in the middle of the cockpit. Analogue Automotive says the layout not only lowers overall mass but also sharpens weight distribution and driving dynamics.

Thanks to extensive use of carbon fiber across the bodywork, wheels, and braking system, the VHPK weighs just 1,323 pounds — roughly 600 kilograms — nearly 300 kilograms lighter than the already spartan factory Elise. That diet pays dividends in performance, especially when paired with the extensively reworked 1.8-liter Rover K-series engine. Output is rated at 250 horsepower, which translates to a staggering 400 horsepower per metric ton, putting the restomod in the same power-to-weight conversation as elite hypercars.

Visually, the VHPK Elise retains the low-slung proportions of the original but wears bespoke carbon panels and motorsport-inspired detailing. Inside, the minimalist cockpit underscores the car’s track-oriented focus, with the central seating position echoing the driving environment of Formula 1 machinery.

Production will be highly limited, with only 35 units planned. Order books are scheduled to open in 2026, and demand is expected to far exceed supply. For enthusiasts who value precision and purity above all else, the VHPK Elise looks to be a rare opportunity to experience a distilled form of driving.
