Few names carry as much weight in the pro-touring world as George Poteet, and this 1959 Chevrolet El Camino was built specifically for him. A true labor of craftsmanship, this first-year El Camino blends classic Tri-Five-era styling with thoroughly modern performance and engineering, and it is now crossing the block at the GAA Classic Car Auction.

1959 Chevrolet El Camino

Under the hood sits an LS3 classic engine dressed in 409-style trim and producing 430 horsepower, paired with a Bowler-built 4L65 transmission and a GearFX 9-inch Ford rear end. The chassis has been modified with narrowed A-arms, new front and rear sway bars, and a complete set of 12.9-inch Wilwood front and rear disc brakes, giving this El Camino the kind of handling and stopping power that matches its straight-line performance.

The build is loaded with high-end details throughout. It rides on 17-inch Mike Curtis custom billet wheels wrapped in Diamond Back radials with smoothed sidewalls, and steering has been upgraded with a GM 500 conversion kit, all-new steering joints, an Ididit column, and a custom Evod steering wheel. A Rick’s stainless steel fuel tank with an Aeromotive pump feeds the engine, while a custom 3-inch stainless exhaust with SS Magnaflow mufflers handles the other end. A Dewitts LS radiator with Spal fans and Vintage Air heat and AC keep everything comfortable in any season.

Inside, the cabin has been upgraded to Impala style with a custom-built bench seat by Paul Atkins, Dakota Digital RTX gauges, and Dakota Digital cruise control. No corner was cut on the details: all exterior and interior stainless trim was removed and restored, the front-end aluminized trim was chrome plated, and the car wears all-new Steele rubber weatherstrip. All work was done by Mike Goldman Customs, a shop with a reputation for delivering show-quality builds.

Finished in blue over a two-tone blue interior and carrying Georgia registration, this 1959 Chevrolet El Camino represents a rare opportunity to own a pro-touring build with a notable pedigree. You can view the full listing and photo gallery on the GAA Classic Car Auction website.
