A true piece of modern American motorsport history has just hit the open market—and it’s not for the faint of wallet. A factory-built Corvette C8.R, one of only six ever produced for Chevrolet’s flagship endurance racing program, is now up for grabs in Michigan with an asking price of $1.5 million.
The car in question, chassis C8.R-005, is the fifth example constructed by Pratt Miller Engineering, the longtime partner behind Corvette Racing’s factory efforts at Le Mans and in IMSA. Built to full GTE-spec, it represents the final chapter of Corvette’s top-tier factory racing era before the team switched to GT3-spec entries.
Unlike many ex-works race cars that get retired into private museums or corporate collections, this C8.R has been fully refurbished and returned to track-ready condition. It’s eligible for historic racing, private track days, and special motorsport events — making it far more than a static collectible.
During its competition career, chassis 005 carved out an impressive résumé. It ran 11 IMSA events in the 2023 season, scoring six podiums and two wins, continuing the program’s long-standing reputation for consistency and dominance. It also tackled the 24 Hours of Le Mans twice, competing in 2021 and 2022 with factory drivers Antonio García, Jordan Taylor, and Nicky Catsburg among those behind its wheel. In total, the C8.R platform claimed 22 victories and 50 podium finishes across major international events.
Powering the car is the race-bred version of the Z06’s engine: a 5.5-liter LT6.R V8 with a flat-plane crank, tuned for endurance reliability and delivering roughly 500 horsepower. A six-speed Xtrac sequential gearbox, lightweight aluminum chassis, and FIA-approved safety structure complete the package. It tips the scales about 750 pounds lighter than the road-legal Corvette Z06, underscoring its pure competition pedigree.
The car benefits from a recent overhaul at Pratt Miller, including a fresh zero-hour engine, gearbox service, and continued access to genuine parts and technical expertise — a major perk rarely offered with former factory machines.
