Extremely Rare 2014 McLaren P1 HDK Is for Sale on Mecum’s Monterey Auction

For hypercar collectors chasing something beyond the ordinary P1, a 2014 McLaren P1 HDK is for sale at Mecum this August as part of the Milton Verret Collection in Monterey. As the first of only nine examples fitted with Lanzante’s High Downforce Kit, this car occupies rarefied territory even within McLaren’s already-exclusive 375-unit P1 production run.

The P1 debuted at the 2012 Paris Motor Show as McLaren’s answer to the emerging hypercar arms race, going head-to-head with the Ferrari LaFerrari and Porsche 918 Spyder. All 375 examples sold out within a month of the car’s October 2013 launch, cementing its status as an instant modern classic, and this particular chassis is now offered through Mecum.

This example, chassis 003, carries the extra distinction of being the very first car upgraded with Lanzante’s High Downforce Kit, which brings the aggressive aero and styling of the track-only P1 GTR to a road-legal package, along with an engine upgrade developed with Cosworth from 3.8 to 4.0 liters, lifting output to 1,058 horsepower. Refinished in Cherry Bomb Red with black stripes and showing just 3,122 miles, it also carries gold heat-shield accents echoing the original McLaren F1, a full spec sheet for which is available in the Mecum listing.
