The car is one of 823 Speedsters built for the U.S. market that model year, but its specification sets it apart from nearly all of them. It was ordered through Porsche’s Sonderwunsch, or Special Wishes, program in paint-to-sample Ruby Red Metallic over a leather-to-sample Silk Grey interior, with more than $6,000 in additional Exclusive and miscellaneous equipment layered on top.
Its first owner collected the car in Germany under Porsche’s Tourist Delivery Program and held onto it for 32 years, covering most of the roughly 6,000 miles now showing on the six-digit odometer. Factory records list a production completion date of June 26, 1989.
The Speedster shared the widened rear bodywork of the 911 Turbo of the period and traded the standard Carrera’s greenhouse for a chopped windscreen and shortened side glass, topped by a fiberglass twin-hump rear deck that hides the black soft top. Other exterior details include headlight washers, integrated fog lights, rear bumperettes and a single exhaust outlet.
Motivation comes from a 3.2-liter flat-six with Bosch fuel injection, rated when new at 215 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque, sending power rearward through a G50 five-speed manual transaxle and a limited-slip differential. Staggered 16-inch Fuchs wheels wear Pirelli P Zero Rosso tires fitted in February, when the engine oil, spark plugs, gearbox fluid and brake fluid were all serviced. Cross-drilled rotors sit behind black calipers with Porsche script.
Inside, power-adjustable seats are trimmed in supple leather with contrast piping, and extended leather wraps the instrument panel housing, steering column casing and parking brake lever. Rear seats were deleted in favor of a velour-lined luggage shelf. A Blaupunkt Reno cassette stereo occupies the optional Type B center console, which also carries a voltmeter and temperature gauge. A four-spoke steering wheel on a raised hub frames VDO instruments, including a central tachometer redlined at 6,300 rpm and a 170-mph speedometer.
The selling dealer in Arizona is offering the car at no reserve. Paperwork includes the Porsche production specifications sheet, the tourist delivery order form, the original window sticker, the owner’s manual and service records. A Carfax report shows no accidents or damage, 14 service entries and a last reported reading of 5,205 miles. The title is clean and issued in Michigan.
