Two Chevrolet Bel Airs representing different eras of postwar style and engineering are among the highlights at the upcoming Freije & Freije Auctioneers Fall Big Boy Toy Auction, set for September 26–27. Both cars will cross the block during Day 2 in the Classic & Vintage Vehicles ring.

The first is a 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air convertible, perhaps the most recognizable icon of the Tri-Five era. Finished in factory-correct Matador Red (code 802) with a matching interior (code 683), the car has been restored with remarkable attention to accuracy. Under the hood sits the rare EK-suffix 283-cubic-inch small-block V8 with Rochester Ramjet fuel injection, delivering a factory-rated 283 horsepower. A three-speed manual transmission sends power to the rear wheels.
Additional features include a power-operated convertible top, Wonderbar radio, E-Z-Eye tinted glass, dual mirrors, in-dash clock, and spinner hubcaps wrapped in wide whitewall tires. Even the underside was finished in red oxide primer to match the original factory application. With just 45 miles showing since restoration, this Bel Air is a top-tier example of Chevrolet’s golden age.

Also crossing the block is a 1960 Chevrolet Bel Air sedan, offered at no reserve. This car showcases the styling shift of the early 1960s, with its broad fins giving way to cleaner, sculpted lines. Finished in bronze and cream over a custom bronze-and-tan leather interior, the sedan is equipped with a four-speed manual transmission, air conditioning, heat, and power steering. The odometer shows 23,094 miles, which the consignor states are actual.
Together, the two Bel Airs illustrate Chevrolet’s rapid design evolution and ongoing popularity with collectors. From the flamboyant fins of 1957 to the restrained elegance of 1960, both cars reflect the enduring appeal of mid-century American motoring.
