Finished in a striking custom Rosso Fuoco hue, this Carrera GT pairs Porsche’s motorsport pedigree with everyday, top-down drama, and it’s ready to find a new home with a collector who appreciates both.
Born from Porsche’s decades-long tradition of homologation-inspired specials, the Carrera GT arrived in 2003 as an unofficial successor to the 911 GT1, built around a competition-style carbon fiber monocoque from Italy’s ATR Composites. Only 1,270 examples were produced before the run ended in 2006, with roughly half landing in North America, making the example listed at Mecum something of an event in itself.
This particular example, chassis WP0CA29805L001248, shows just 3,471 miles and underwent a three-month, bare-tub refinish by marque specialists Karosserie of Wayne, Pennsylvania, resulting in a concours-quality Rosso Fuoco finish that exceeds original factory standards. Beneath the skin sits the Carrera GT’s Formula 1-derived 5.7-liter V-10, good for 603 horsepower and 435 lb-ft, routed through a six-speed manual with a compact ceramic twin-disc clutch, as detailed in the Mecum auction listing.
With its automated rear wing, carbon-ceramic brakes and a top speed north of 200 mph, the Carrera GT remains one of the last analog-feeling hypercars built without electronic driver aids.
