The final weekend of July brought a full slate of collector car activity, even without a marquee sale from the biggest three auction houses. Barrett-Jackson, Bonhams, and RM Sotheby’s are all saving their next major sales for Monterey Car Week in mid-August, but Mecum, GAA Classic Cars, Iconic Auctioneers, and a handful of smaller regional sales kept bidders busy from Pennsylvania to Silverstone to Johannesburg.
Mecum Harrisburg — Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex
Mecum’s Harrisburg sale ran Wednesday, July 22 through Saturday, July 25, with roughly 1,200 vehicles crossing the block across muscle cars, Corvettes, trucks, and motorcycles. The headline result was a 2026 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 Stars & Steel Edition convertible, one of only three built, which brought a record $561,000 with commission included. Other strong results included a rare 1970 Mercury Cougar Boss 302 Eliminator, while a highly original 1962 Oldsmobile Starfire convertible sold for a modest $25,300, a reminder that six-figure headline cars weren’t the only story of the weekend. Crowds were reported in the thousands, and Mecum streamed the sale live on ESPN+ each day.
GAA Classic Cars — Greensboro, North Carolina
GAA held one of its four annual sales at its indoor Automobile Palace venue in Greensboro from Thursday through Saturday, July 23–25, with roughly 750 vehicles on the docket, including more than 60 Corvettes. Reported top sellers included a 1967 Shelby GT500 at $176,000, a 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air convertible at $175,000, a 1969 Camaro RS/SS restomod at $167,000, and a 1970 Chevelle SS454 LS6 at $160,000. A custom 1968 Mustang convertible added another $143,000 to the tally, and a pair of pink early-1970s Mopar pony cars, a ‘Cuda and a Challenger, found buyers in post-block sales. General admission was $20, with free live coverage available through GAA’s YouTube channel and the RACER Network.
Iconic Auctioneers — The Iconic Sale at the BRDC Classic, Silverstone
Across the Atlantic, Iconic Auctioneers ran two sales at Silverstone Circuit as part of the BRDC Classic: a 33-lot competition car sale on Friday, July 24, carrying a combined mid-estimate above £2.9 million, followed by a 131-lot collectors’ car sale on Saturday, July 25. The top result was a 1994 Jaguar XJ220 with just 3,277 miles from new, which sold for £506,250. That car was part of a broader consignment from the collection of Anthony Hamilton, father of Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton, who parted with 19 cars from his personal collection for a combined £1.7 million. Other notable results included a Bentley 4½-Litre Blower re-creation at £393,750 and a 2007 Porsche 911 GT3 RS at £241,875.
Creative Rides — Frozen in Time, Bryanston, South Africa
On a smaller scale, South African auction house Creative Rides marked its 20th sale with the Frozen in Time classic car auction on Saturday, July 25, at its Bryanston showroom outside Johannesburg. The sale offered close to 40 cars, and complete individual results were still being confirmed at the time of writing, but it added an international, boutique flavor to an already busy weekend.
What’s Next
With this weekend behind it, the collector car calendar now turns toward Monterey Car Week in mid-August, where Barrett-Jackson, Bonhams, RM Sotheby’s, Gooding & Company, and Mecum will all hold major sales within days of one another, likely setting the tone for the rest of the 2026 market.
