Finished in Competition Yellow Tintcoat Metallic and equipped with the ZTK Performance Package, the car represents the return of a nameplate Chevrolet has long reserved for its most extreme production Corvettes. Josh Holder, the model’s chief engineer, has described the sports car market as having an unending appetite for peak performance, and said the ZR1 sits at the very top of the Corvette lineup.
Under the rear glass sits a 5.5-liter LT7, a twin-turbocharged, dual-overhead-cam V8 with a flat-plane crankshaft. It shares its basic architecture with the Z06’s naturally aspirated LT6, then adds forced induction — the first time a factory-built Corvette has used twin turbochargers. Chevrolet bills the result as the most powerful V8 an American automaker has put into production.
Two chassis configurations are offered, both riding on Magnetic Ride dampers. The standard setup pairs a lower-drag body with a compact spoiler and customer-adjustable short and tall wickers. Carbon fiber appears throughout, including the front splitter, rocker moldings and side intakes with integrated brake cooling, along with a front underwing fitted with stall gurney deflectors. Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires wrap 20-inch wheels up front and 21-inch wheels in back, a combination intended to keep the car livable on public roads without giving up track capability.
Organizers say entrants may enter as many times as they like, and that doing so adds them to a VIP club that receives advance notice of flash giveaways and bonus-entry promotions. More than 100 winners have been drawn to date, some of them multiple times. Every entry counts toward the ZR1 as well as any active side prize.
April’s flash giveaway produced two of those winners. Daniel Vasquez of South San Francisco, Calif., took home a Blackstone griddle, while Larry Roberson of Humble, Texas, received $350 in free entries and a $100 gas card.
