Ferrari Collection With Italian Tricolore Theme Set for Mecum Monterey Auction

A group of modern Ferraris tied together by a common visual thread — the green, white and red of the Italian flag — will cross the block at the Mecum Monterey auction Aug. 13-15.

Billed as The Tricolore Scuderia Collection, the assemblage leans on the racing record that gives Ferrari road cars their weight. Scuderia Ferrari has taken 16 Formula One constructors’ titles and 15 drivers’ championships, and it remains the oldest surviving team in the series, having entered every world championship season since 1950.

Three cars anchor the group. A 458 Speciale, the sharpened version of the 458 Italia built for 2014 and 2015, shows just 914 miles. It is painted Bianco Avus, a nod to Ferrari’s podium sweep at the 1959 German Grand Prix at the AVUS circuit, and carries a factory-applied tricolore stripe. The 597-horsepower car pairs a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox with side-slip control, an electronic differential, F1 traction control and the first application of a prefill braking system designed to shorten stops. Inside, Nero Alcantara meets Giallo technical fabric, carbon fiber trim and embroidered Cavallino headrests.

Alongside it sits a 458 Speciale A, the open-top variant that debuted at the 2014 Paris Motor Show. Ferrari built 499 of them, deliberately one short of projected demand, and the 4.5-liter naturally aspirated V-8 made it the most powerful street-legal naturally aspirated Ferrari convertible until the LaFerrari Aperta arrived in 2017. The car reaches 62 mph in three seconds and tops out at 199 mph. This example wears Bianco Italia with tricolore stripes over carbon fiber and Alcantara, riding on forged wheels with yellow carbon-ceramic brake calipers.

The V-12 entry is a 2017 F12tdf with 89 miles. One of 799 built, again one below Ferrari’s demand estimate, it was delivered new to Canada through the automaker’s Extra Campionario program in Bianco Italia with tricolore stripes and a Bianco and Nero interior. Its 6.3-liter engine produces 769 horsepower and 519 pound-feet of torque, aided by a race-derived valvetrain and variable-geometry intake trumpets. Carbon fiber cut 243 pounds from the F12 berlinetta, and revised aerodynamics generate 570 pounds of downforce at 124 mph, roughly double the standard car. Rear-wheel steering, LaFerrari-derived brake calipers and a matching luggage set round it out. Ferrari quoted a sub-three-second 0-60 time and a 210 mph top speed.

Several other cars fill out the consignment, among them a low-mileage 2009 430 Scuderia with 503 horsepower and the F1-SuperFast transmission, a well-optioned 2013 458 Spider and a 2009 F430.
