The father of Formula One’s most successful race winner is parting with a car collection that has quietly grown into a small fortune. Anthony Hamilton, 66, plans to send 27 vehicles from his personal garage to auction next month, a haul valued at more than £3 million and weighted heavily toward British machinery.

Of the cars on offer, 23 were built in the United Kingdom. The remaining four consist of three Mercedes models and a single 1980s BMW saloon, giving the catalogue the feel of a tribute to a golden age of homegrown automaking.

The headline lot is a Jaguar XJ220 with just 3,800 miles and a fully documented service history, expected to bring around half a million pounds. A recreation of Jaguar’s rare XKSS follows at an estimated £375,000. Jaguar dominates the sale, with two C-type continuation cars projected at £225,000 each and three E-Types, including a Series 3 V12 in the uncommon Heather shade valued at £60,000.

Mercedes makes a fitting appearance, given that Lewis Hamilton spent a dozen years racing for the brand before moving to Ferrari last year. The standout is a 1960 190 SL guided at up to £120,000, joined by a C63 AMG and a 300SL once owned by boxer Billy Walker.

The collection also spans Aston Martins in concours condition, rare Triumphs including an Italia and a believed sole-surviving TR5 prototype, and a full set of high-value 1960s Mini Cooper S variants. A British Racing Green David Brown Speedback GT, one of only 100 built, is expected to fetch £240,000.

The sale takes place Saturday, July 25, at Silverstone during the British Racing Drivers Club’s Classic weekend, with Iconic Auctioneers handling the lots. Held alongside the circuit’s Hamilton Straight, it amounts to a personal collection, built on one man’s taste, going public at last.
